The American Heart Association (AHA) Heartsaver® Instructor Course is designed to prepare individuals to teach AHA Heartsaver® courses, including Heartsaver CPR AED, Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED, and Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid CPR AED. This course equips instructor candidates with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively teach CPR, AED, and first aid to non-medical audiences such as teachers, workplace responders, coaches, and community members.
This program combines online learning, in-person training, and a hands-on teaching evaluation, ensuring each instructor is confident and capable of delivering high-quality, guideline-compliant instruction in a professional and engaging manner.
Course Components:

Step 1: Complete the AHA Heartsaver Instructor Essentials Online Course (required before attending class)

Step 2: Attend the in-person Heartsaver Instructor Course led by AHA Training Center Faculty, focusing on:

Course setup and classroom management

Effective communication and teaching strategies

Skills practice and student evaluation methods

Course administration and AHA paperwork requirements

Step 3: Successfully complete a monitoring session, where the candidate teaches a Heartsaver course while being evaluated by an AHA Training Center Faculty member
Course Length:
Approximately 6–8 hours, depending on class size and participant experience
Prerequisites:

Current AHA Heartsaver certification (or higher, such as BLS Provider)

Completion of the AHA Heartsaver Instructor Essentials Online Course

Alignment with an AHA Training Center (such as Panhandle CPR)
Upon Successful Completion:

Candidates receive an AHA Heartsaver Instructor Certification, valid for two years

Authorized to teach the following AHA Heartsaver courses:
