American Heart Association BLS Provider Course

The American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider Course trains healthcare professionals to recognize and respond to life-threatening emergencies with confidence and skill. This hands-on course emphasizes high-quality CPR, AED use, and team dynamics—the essential foundation for saving lives in both prehospital and in-facility settings.

Course Overview:

Participants will learn how to:

  • Perform high-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants

  • Use an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) effectively

  • Provide ventilations using barrier devices and bag-mask techniques

  • Work as part of a team during multi-rescuer resuscitation

  • Recognize and respond to cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, and choking situations

Course Format:

Certification:

The American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor Course prepares qualified candidates to teach the AHA’s BLS Provider and BLS Renewal courses to healthcare professionals and other personnel. This course is ideal for experienced BLS providers who are passionate about teaching lifesaving skills and wish to train others in high-quality CPR and AED use.

During the course, participants will learn how to plan, organize, and conduct AHA courses following AHA guidelines and administrative requirements. The program combines online learning, classroom instruction, and hands-on practice to ensure instructors are confident and competent in both the science and delivery of AHA training.

Course Components:

  • Step 1: Completion of the AHA BLS Instructor Essentials Online Course (required prior to attending)

  • Step 2: In-person instructor training led by AHA Training Center Faculty, focusing on:

    • Teaching methodology and effective communication

    • Skills testing and remediation techniques

    • Course administration and AHA documentation procedures

  • Step 3: Monitoring Session – Candidate must successfully teach a BLS Provider Course while being evaluated by AHA Faculty

Course Length:

  • Approximately 6–8 hours, depending on class size and participant experience

Prerequisites:

  • Current AHA BLS Provider certification (must be valid on the day of the course)

  • Completion of the AHA BLS Instructor Essentials Online Course

American Heart Association HeartCode® BLS Course

The American Heart Association HeartCode® Basic Life Support (BLS) course offers a flexible, blended learning option for healthcare providers and students who need to earn or renew their BLS certification.

This course combines online learning with a hands-on skills session, allowing you to complete the cognitive portion at your own pace before demonstrating practical CPR and AED skills in person with a certified instructor at Panhandle CPR.

Course Overview:

HeartCode® BLS teaches participants to:

  • Recognize life-threatening emergencies and respond quickly

  • Perform high-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants

  • Use an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) effectively

  • Provide appropriate ventilation and airway management

  • Work as part of a team in a resuscitation scenario

Course Format:

  1. Online Portion: Complete the self-paced AHA eLearning module (average completion time: 1–2 hours).

  2. Skills Session: Schedule your in-person, instructor-led practice and skills check at Panhandle CPR.

AHA Heartsaver® First Aid, CPR, AED

The American Heart Association Heartsaver® First Aid CPR AED course is designed to prepare individuals to provide first aid, CPR, and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) in a safe, timely, and effective manner.

This course is ideal for anyone with little or no medical training who needs a course completion card for job, regulatory, or other requirements — or anyone who simply wants to be prepared to help in an emergency.

Course Objectives

Participants will learn to:

  • Recognize and respond to medical, injury, and environmental emergencies

  • Provide immediate care for life-threatening situations until professional help arrives

  • Perform high-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants

  • Use an AED effectively and safely

  • Relieve choking in adults, children, and infants

The Heartsaver® First Aid, CPR, AED Skills Session is the hands-on portion of the blended learning option for the American Heart Association’s Heartsaver course. This session is designed for students who have already completed the online Heartsaver® First Aid, CPR, AED eLearning module and are ready to demonstrate their practical skills in person.

During this instructor-led session at Panhandle CPR, students will practice and demonstrate essential lifesaving techniques, including:

  • Performing CPR for adults, children, and infants

  • Using an AED (Automated External Defibrillator)

  • Providing first aid for medical, injury, and environmental emergencies

  • Responding to choking emergencies

Course Format:

  1. Step 1 – Online Course: Complete the AHA Heartsaver® First Aid, CPR, AED online module (sold separately through the AHA eLearning website).

  2. Step 2 – Skills Session: Attend your in-person session with a certified instructor at Panhandle CPR to demonstrate and verify your skills.

Certification:

Upon successful completion of the skills check, students will receive an American Heart Association Heartsaver® First Aid, CPR, AED eCard, valid for two years.
